CASE STUDIES

The following two case studies explore households who have recently purchased the dwelling they occupy; and how changes to housing ownership and affordability in Australia over the last two decades have been experienced by different generations of households.

The first allows for analysis on two groups of recent purchasers – those whose purchase was their first home purchase (first home buyers) and those who had previously owned a home (changeover buyers). The second compares the housing characteristics of three age groups of households, younger (household reference person aged under 35 years), middle year (household reference person aged 35 to 54 years), and older (household reference person aged 55 years and over) across a twenty year time period between the 1995-96 Survey of Income and Housing and the most recent 2015-16 results.
